One of the big problems is the transportation of the material excavated in the tunnels

"Scorched" by the lakeside floodgates, they fear an unfinished project, this time not in the city but in Tremezzina , where for months, if not years, the bypass that was supposed to solve traffic problems has been proceeding at a snail's pace. A thousand days after the project was supposedly completed, the lakeside mayors are the first to realize that at this rate, building 9.5 kilometers of tunnels is a pipe dream, and are therefore launching a petition urging national politicians to intervene as soon as possible. Yesterday, their plea for help was answered by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure, Matteo Salvini, who spoke by telephone during the meeting convened at the Prefecture to review the work, "reassuring the institutional representatives present of the Ministry and ANAS 's firm commitment to encouraging a decisive resumption of activities aimed at completing the project, confirming their representations regarding the identification of the necessary financial resources. It is a strategic project; it will be completed." Salvini's call followed the intervention of Matteo Castiglioni, head of the Anas Territorial Unit, and Giancarlo Luongo, sole project manager. Luongo reported that he had ordered a technical amendment assessment to comply with the decisions issued by the Technical Advisory Board (CCT), which had issued an opinion on the management of materials from the tunnel excavation. This issue was raised by the contractor, who also requested a review of the project's financial framework. "In the meantime, Anas will issue a specific service order to the contractor to implement the excavation activities gradually, starting next September." He was referring to the Colonno tunnel, where excavation is underway, albeit very slowly, and the Griante tunnel, where work is even further behind schedule. Work will certainly be suspended during the two central weeks of August.
